SPECIAL EQUIPMENT TRAINING AND SAFETY
Certain equipment in the costume shop requires caution and training. As these are machines that students may not have experience with, please go through training with shop staff before using.

SERGERS
-
Keep hands and fingers away from needles and blades around the working area. Two blades move up and down to cut away fabric
​
SEWING MACHINES
Keep hands and fingers away from the needle to avoid getting fingers cut.

On Industrial machines, When "braking" keep hands clear as it backstitches and cuts threads

Do not use Industrial machines or sergers without being training on them.

INDUSTRIAL IRON

Do not set the iron up on end

When Filling iron with water, make sure the iron is cool so the water does not spatter
-
Place the iron on rubber pad after using as to not burn the table

DYE VAT
When Vat is heated up, do not leave it unattended.

When adding dye package to dye vat, pour in close to the water as to avoid excessive fumes emitted.

HEAT GUN

Keep heat gun pointed away from anyone when turned on.

Keep hands and fingers away from the working area.

Do not use on plastic or flammable surface.

ROTARY CUTTERS

Do not run the blade over fingers,
-
Rotary cutters are razor blades so they are very sharp
-
When changing blade, please talk to shop staff to ensure the blade is safely in place.
