Backstage Safety
BACKSTAGE LIGHTING
-
Safety lighting will change depending on the show
-
There must always be a clear path to the fly rail. Things may need to be moved at the end of the night to ensure the path is large enough.
-
Backstage lighting will change from show to show based on set and prop needs
-
Run lights and glow tape should be used as needed to ensure safe passage through backstage areas. Glow tape should be kept with ASMs backstage in case actors or crew members need more during the course of the run.
-
Fly rail, any weapons (armory), large wagon that rolls on and off stage, etc need to be well lit for safety
-
All aisles, passageways and doorways must be kept clear. Only people working on the production can be in these spaces during a performance (SPS 377.10).
BLACKOUT CHECK
Light board operator should coordinate with stage manager to ensure that the crews pre-show duties are at a point where it is safe to do a blackout check.
-
-
Light board op should call out, “Going dark”, with those in the vicinity responding “Thank you.”
-
The response indicates that the initial call been heard and understood.
